World Relief

I love World Relief.

World Relief is is an amazing Christian Organization to partner with and volunteer for. This past semester I had the privilege to work with a Syrian Refugee Family through World Relief. I taught them English, ate with them, and lived life with them for the last three months. It was such a growing experience for me... both academically, and spiritually.

I remember going into their house the first day. Thoughts running through my head like, "How do I greet them? Do I take off my shoes when I enter their house? What if I can't understand anything they say?" Thoughts running through my mind at a million miles per hour. Even though I wouldn't want to admit it, I was nervous and feeling very unprepared. I mean, I've never taught someone how to speak English before. This experience was completely new for me. It was new, but something that I have always looked forward to.

Even though I was nervous and unprepared, I can say with full assurance that God has used me in my weaknesses to teach this family English. I loved preparing lesson plans for the couple and their kids. I looked forward to what we would all be learning together on the weekends. Even though I spent hours teaching them English, and playing games with them... they have taught me so much. They have taught me what love is, how to listen better, and how to relate to people better. I even got to experience a little bit of how meals work... and try Syrian food.

I can't even begin to express the love I have for the family I worked with this past semester. I wish, oh how I wish I could show you a picture of them and tell you a little bit about the kids as well as the parents....but for confedientality reasons, I am not able to.

All in all, I've throughly enjoyed working for World Relief. So much so, that I changed my major to TESOL this last semester. I am excited to see where this path leads me and I am so excited to be working with World Relief in the fall.

All Glory to God.
