Growing up, I had a dad. A dad who did not know the Lord, and really didn't have an interest in knowing the Lord. My earthly dad growing up was harsh with his words, not very affectoinate, and didn't really have a whole lot of interest in "knowing me". In this blog, I simply don't want to criticize my dad. I just want to remember the times in my life with my dad, and other dads, that meant a lot to me. A time that meant a lot to me (with my biological dad) was the times where he said he loved me, the vacations that we went on, and the times that we hung out. Those were moments that I will cherish. My dad and I aren't close at all. I pray that God restores the brokenness that is in that relationship. There is a lot of healing that needs to take place between him and I, and I pray that someday that will happen. I pray that he will someday know the Lord, not just know about Him.
Now, I am going to talk about my "other" dads. One instance that I will never forget is when I was presented a ring by Andy Ellingson. Some of you know Andy, he is a High School youth leader at Harvest. Andy gave me a purity ring for Christmas last year, and I treasure this ring with just about everything I have in me. I cried when I received it, because it meant so much to me. A couple months after I was at his house, he told me to follow him and he led me to the bathroom.... I had no idea what was going on. Like why the bathroom. But, in his house, he has speakers that play pretty much throughout the house. He turned on a slower song and asked me to dance with him. I couldn't even dance because I was balling my eyes out. He just HELD me and we danced, like a father and daughter should. I can't even begin to tell you how much this has meant to me.
Another instance of a great dad in my life, is Jim McClain. Jim and his wife (Marisa), invited me to live with them. I've been living with them for about a year and a half now. Jim is a dad who likes to pick on you and tease you. He is a dad that I am extremely thankful for- Jim stinking opened up his house and invited me to live here? How incredible is that!!!! I am so thankful for him. I'm thankful for his love for me. I'm thankful for the good and bad talks that we have had. I've learned a lot about how a dad should treat his girls since I have lived with them. The love that he has for his daughters often makes me tear up. He is a GREAT father. I'm thankful to be in a home where Christ's love is. It very much displayed here.
And finally... the perfect dad. The most perfect dad in my life and in the world, is Jesus Christ. It blows my mind that no matter what I do, that He still loves me. His love is perfect and I don't have to worry about "pleasing" him. There is nothing I could do to make him love me more or love me less. Nothing can seperate me from the LOVE of God! He is a dad that I can tell anything to. He is a dad
that I dance with. A dad whose arms are always open for me. A dad that wants to comfort me when times are hard. He is a GOD who loves. He is a GOD with amazing grace and FORGIVENESS. I can't wait until I am in Heaven with my DADDY. He is my daddy... I am His princess.
