How many times is the phrase "I'll pray for you" thrown around? I can tell you that it is thrown around way more often than we may think. I have personally heard this phrase way too many times in my life. And I have grown to despise this phrase. This phrase often looses its value. Think about it. Even people who don't proclaim Christ as their Savior say "I'll pray for you", especially when times get hard. When someone passes away or someone is hospitalized, and a status or a photo is put up on Facebook... there are normally more than just a couple comments saying, "I'll pray for you..."
Why do we say that phrase though? I mean, some of us actually pray after we post a comment saying that we will pray. I think most of us often say this though because those words are so comforting. They are so comforting to hear when times get hard. It really is comforting to know that someone is thinking about us and "maybe" praying for us.
But in the Christian world, how many times do us Christians say this but not follow through? I think I guarantee that 90% of Christians say that they will pray for someone, then forget to do it. And this is something that we desperately need to change. Maybe we should just pray for the person or situation right then and there.
I am beyond guilty on this topic. I have said that I would pray for someone, and then I just forgot about it... but that shouldn't be the case. I'm assuming we are all guilty of telling someone that we are going to pray for them and them forgetting to do. May we stick to our words and pray for those around us- pray for those who we say we are going to pray for.
The world doesn't need more comforting words, it needs to be built on truth and on prayer. Let's start praying for people right then and there and not "forget" to do so. I want to be known as a girl who is intentional about praying for the world.
